Following the site visit, a solution was proposed to maintain the installation in a standalone environment that was not reliant on the city power supply. This meant Laser-Scan sourcing the following equipment for the installation:

  • Caterpillar New Olympian generator, 44kVA with 24hr diesel supply, auto power transfer panel, and auto start in power failure conditions.
  • Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for 15 minutes to cover generator start-up to full power generation.
  • Compressed air system capable of working at 45°C ambient temperature, auto start with ‘soft’ start that does not affect that UPS harmonics.
  • Storage tank for 15 minutes of compressed air to provide constant supply at 6 bar for the spin up time.
  • Electrical installation that would be switchable between the city supply and the generator supply that was not integrated to the building supply.
The proposal was accepted and items were ordered with a planned installation in Mid November 2007, to last five weeks. Items were delivered and packaged, sent to Egypt.
